The Disappointment Continues
Siem Reap, Cambodia

Siem Reap, Cambodia

After our experience in Phnom Penh and with me still feeling under the weather, we decided to take a flight out direct to Siem Reap, well, after being told we couldn’t board our first flight; we had to book a last minute ticket with Bassaka Air (who?). After arrival, we were glad at this point we’d booked a flashy looking hotel for our arrival. We were greeted in a much better fashion and started to experience familiar vibes to our Goa arrival. This was soon short lived. Again, the disappoint of Cambodia began to step in after they had lost a bag of ours during a laundry mix up and cleaners fail to be honest and put a $50 dollar note aside and a camera battery and instead pocket them. Our relationship with the hotel soon turned sour, especially because their customer service lacked anything even under satisfactory. It’s not their fault directly but their education, wall though if you own a hotel, you need to know the basic principles. We put this to the back of our minds and organised our much awaiting trip to Angkor Wat. Now, I don’t mean to be too negative, these latest articles aren’t exactly all about fun and games (this will change I promise), but it’s really overrated. The main temple of Angkor Wat is impressive by size and by nature and the Angkor Thom (better known as the Tomb Raider Temple) was one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen my team Nottingham Forest win so that says a lot. This temple is submerged, been broken downwind now owed by the jungle. Pictures should show the share impressive energy that has taken place as a fight between nature and mans work. So, despite our negative end, the visit of the temples showed Cambodia’s history, along with a typical Aspara dance to showcase its Khmer heritage. I never regret anything, but what I’m disappointed at is the countries development and approach to making a better society. Maybe it’s too soon, but the foundations do not look strong. Other a Mentions: – Cambodia isn’t cheap like many say, supermarkets rip you off – Cutlery comes AFTER the meal, they don’t give it before – World heritage sites in Cambodia do not accept card and charge you ridiculous sums of money to visit – but we all contribute because it’s the only way and it’s an amazing site to see – I’ve seen a butterfly glide for the first time, so gracefully through the temples – There’s more airlines in Cambodia than you would ever imagine
