From Airlie Beach we headed out nice and early to attempt to make Bundaberg before dusk. Idea being we would reach Bundaberg just in time for our Turtle Exploration on the nearby protected beaches (more later). It was quite fitting that one of the first roads we passed was titled “Rise and Shine Road”. A long 10 hour journey as you can imagine is about as much interest as what this blog could potentially offer in writing, so I’ll shall put my top 10 things to consider when embarking on a 10 hour journey through Queensland; in no particular order: 1. It’s a long journey 2. You will feel like your car is about to breakdown before playing your own role in an American teen horror movie 3. When you see a sign for koalas you will inevitably stop just to even give yourself the slightest impossible chance of seeing one in the wild (just hanging out car spotting) 4. Even though you see several signs for Kangaroos, for some reason in 10 hours it’s impossible to see Australia’s most common wild animal 5. You try to find the strangest name for a creek (as you see many of them named on the side of the road) …for those of you who are desperate to ask, the winning name was “Ginger Beer Creek” 6. You get tired but even more determined to reach your destination despite the sat nav adding on minutes to your journey 7. Coffee and sweets stops become as important for your body as much as water 8. Don’t bother stopping in Rockhampton, people will actually convince you that an Americano is not even a coffee. 9. You will come across suicidal butterflies that will literally just keep flying into your windscreen 10. So, all the above nine is not enough to convince you to fly???
