Looking to build a new website?
I’ve compiled a Top 10 list of FAQs that you may find useful to ask a website designer/developer.
Under each question, I’ve put a brief answer as a response that I’d answer with when I design websites myself.
Do you arrange buying the domain name and hosting for the site, and is this included in your quote?
By all means, you can go and buy the domain yourself – I’d recommend GoDaddy for ease of use, and because they offer some decent deals for first-time domains. There is also the possibility to buy ex-domains that Google has authority for, which gives you a nice boost at the start when looking to get ranked.
How easy will it be for me to report on and update my website? If it requires specialist knowledge, will you provide training for myself and my staff?
I set up all websites using Elementor. This means two things, a) it’s great if we need to put custom coding in, as it’s a developer-friendly plugin for use on WordPress sites, and b) it has an advanced drag and drop system meaning if you’d like to change some text or add some photos, it’s nice and easy without needing a developer. I provide a little training to all small businesses about this.
Will there be any ongoing costs for general site maintenance?
This is completely optional, but for £50 each month you have your website checked weekly to make sure everything is running smoothly from contact forms to additional functionality. This keeps all your plugins updated and keeps away those nasty internet bugs for peace of mind. Aside from that, nothing unless you need a GSuite email address, but you can get free email addresses from the hosting provider we use.
Will you optimise the website for search engines?
All sites come with some basic optimisation, however, this question can come with very long answers. The best thing is to work out who you want finding your website and what for. This way we can identify how we can implement SEO into the website to get you ranking as soon as possible as there are other factors involved.
Will the site be mobile responsive?
Yes, for every damn site! However, I offer 3 levels of mobile responsiveness, including a bespoke mobile site that Google will love! However, it’s just dependent on your project.
If I am unhappy with the finished design of my site, can it be amended and is there a cost associated with this?
I offer two amend stages where you have the chance to modify what’s needed in line with the designs. This is part of the price you are quoted.
Will you provide content and imagery for the site, or should I provide it?
We use an external agency for imagery and designs, and as far as content goes, this will need to be discussed before. These costs are all clearly explained, and there are multiple options from sourcing a professional to DIY options.
What is the scope for future development of the website? Is it built to grow quickly?
The world is its oyster! It’s built-in WordPress with a theme and plugins that have a great support base and longevity. Do not worry, this site can go as far as you want it to!
How much will future amendments to the site cost?
For much cheaper rates you can go for a retainer or you can get one-off amends at £45 per hour.
How is my website protected if something goes wrong?
Due to future updates, I could never ensure that certain updates will affect the current functionality of the website, but through proper matainance, we can avoid issues and rectify things as soon as they happen. You can always take your website off the hosting platform at any time, it’s yours.
